Day 1 Arrive Chennai – Mamallapuram (Approximately 55 kms, 1.30 hours by road)
Arrival at Chennai airport. You will be greeted by our representative at the airport and proceed for a short tour of Chennai visiting Fort St George, Anna Samadhi and museum. Later drive to Mamallapuram. Check in at the hotel and overnight stay at Mamallapuram
Day 2 Mamallapuram – Kanchipuram – Mamallapuram
Today morning enjoy an excursion to Kanchipuram. It was the historical capital of the Pallavas during the 7th - 9th centuries. Kanchipuram is one of the seven sacred cities of India. It is also famous for hand-woven silk fabrics and saris. Return to Mallalapuram. Visit the Shore Temple which includes many bas reliefs including one 100 ft. long and 45 ft. high carved out of granite. It was built in the early 8th century. Evening relax on the beach. Day 3 Mamallapuram – Pondicherry (Approximately 155 kms, 3 hours by road)
After breakfast drive to Pondicherry. On arrival check in at the hotel. In this city, many battles were fought between British and French. Pondicherry is synonymous with French Heritage in India and understandably so as it served as the capital of the French Colonies in India. In the evening you can enjoy a walk on the French quarters heritage area of Pondicherry and the promenade in the evening on your own. Overnight stay at your hotel in Pondicherry Meal: Breakfast
Day 4 Pondicherry – Aurobindo Ashram
Pondicherry – Aurobindo Ashram, Handmade paper factory, Sacred Heart of Jesus Church, Auroville, Ang. Today visit Sir Aurobindo's Ashram, The ashram was set up in the year 1926 by Sri Aurbindo Ghose. His philosophy is derived in a combination of yoga and modern science. Also visit Ashram’s handmade paper factory, Sacred Heart of Jesus Church. Later in the afternoon visit Auroville (15 kms north of Pondicherry). In the evening visit the Anglo- French textile showroom for a bit of shopping. Day 5 Pondicherry – Chidambaram - Tanjore (Approximately 170 kms ; 4 hours by road)
Morning leave for Chidambaram. Visit Nataraja temple in Chidambaram. The magnificent Temple was guilt in 7th century A.D. Its beautiful polygonal dome enshrines Lord Vishnu and Shiva. Continue drive to Tanjore and on arrival check in at the hotel. Afternoon visit Brihadeshwara Temple which was built in the 10th century. This is the crowning glory of Chola temple architecture. The dome on top of the apex of the 63 metre high temple, is a single piece of granite weighing an estimated 81 tons which was put in place by hauling it along an earthwork ramp six km long in a similar manner to which the Egyptian pyramids were built. Day 6 Tanjore – Trichy – Tanjore (Approximately 120 kms, 3 hours by road)
Today enjoy an excursion to Trichy. The city is a fine blend of tradition and modernity built around the Rock Fort. Visit The most famous land mark of this bustling town, Rockfort Temple, a spectacular monument perched on a massive rocky out crop which rises abruptly from the plain to tower over the old city. Also visit Srirangam Temple which consists of 7 concentric walls and 21 towers or gopurams. Drive back to Tanjore for your overnight stay Meal: Breakfast
Day 7 Tanjore – Madurai (Approximately 130 kms, 4 hours by road)
This morning after breakfast, proceed for your drive to Madurai. After arrival check in to your hotel. Later proceed for a an afternoon city tour of Madurai covering the famous Meenakshi temple built over 2000 years ago, Tirumala Naik Palace and Gandhi Museum. Day 8 Madurai – Periyar/ Thekkady (Approximately 140 kms, 3 hours by road)
Today drive to Periyar. On arrival check in to your hotel. Later in the afternoon enjoy a boat cruise in Periyar Sanctuary, where you can enjoy the wild life and watch wild elephants in their natural habitat. Overnight stay at your hotel in Periyar/Thekkady Meal: Breakfast
Day 9 Periyar/Thekkady - Kumarakom (Approximately 130 kms, 4 hours by road)
